Not sure this is appropriate but since I'm here -I'm  looking for a British comic strip of the 1940s or 50s that featured a travelling circus. It was an adventure story strip. There was a strongman who may have been called Morgan.

Do you mean "The Rolling Stones" in the Swift comic of the 50s? Take a look at http://www.lookandlearn.com/characters/index.php?c=rollingstones

Hullo Norman,
thanks for the suggestions. What I have in mind would not have been in Swift or Look and Learn. It was a strip that ran, like Black Bob for example, in a humour comic. Possibly Beano, Dandy, Knockout?
