And for the Ladies?

And for the Ladies?

This week I had my first contact  from a female fan. There are a couple of comments from women on the site but they are all friends who left a message more from affection for me than an interest in comics. For Andrea, who used the email connection, I am the man who drew Danger Mouse of whom she is a devotee. There was a while ago an email from a guy whose wife was also a Danger Mouse aficionado so although Andrea is not alone in her interests she is the first women to call me direct. I am pleased about that for some reason. One of Look-in’s virtues was that it appealed to both boys and girls and there used to be a successful market in comics for girls. I am not sociologists enough to know why that ended but it does seem odd that now in the UK 50% of the potential market is completely disregarded. Not true of Japan for instance. There is the danger of oversimplification of this, I am sure there are women and girls who read comics but in general it does seem to be boys stuff. I could go on. Take no notice. I haven’t been the same since I read ‘The Female Eunuch’  in the seventies.

Ooooh crumbs Arthur! nice blog!
Now come on girls, show yourself, would love to hear of other fans like me so I can let my family and friends I'm not the only mad DM fan :)

Hullo Andrea, I'm sure there are people who don't think you have to be mad to be a Danger Mouse fan. Hope you get some responses.

Hi Andrea

I can confirm that you are not alone. I too am a massive fan having grown up with the delights og DangerMouse and his trusty sidekick Penfold. Thankfully I married someone who is also a big fan!

Hullo Jen,
that's good. Thanks for that.

oh helloooo Jen :)

So great to hear from you, seems so weird to find another female fan! Just wait till i get back to work on wed and tell them, they will think ive made you up :) Do you collect his stuff too? Hubby reckons ive actually bought everything there is to have but im still hunting!Im looking for more older 80's stuff if you know of any other sites? Hub is not a fan but does buy me stuff and happily let me change our computer room into a Dangermouse room which he decorated to the disgust of my teenage children! Ah the joys!
Andrea :)

Hi Andrea

By the sounds of it I probably don't have as much stuff as you, although my lovely hubby bought me some of Arthur's incredible original DM artwork from the Look In comics which has signed by Arthur and has pride of place in the spare room. They are as crisp as if they were drawn yesterday and help bring the memories flooding back.

Hi Jen

Your very lucky to have something special like that, I have loads of mad stuff but im enjoying collecting it :)

I am an early years of DM fan who has introduced our hero to the next age of fans - my own boys (its my duty as a parent) who also think he's mint! How anyone of a certain age deny loving Dangermouse and Penfold is beyond me - its far more believable than James Bond!

Hi Psyche
Great to hear from you too, I'm also early DM but have only started to collect his stuff over the last 2 years. Nice to see your are introducing him to your children, mine are too old now but I might work on my 3yr old Godson :)
