Ray Harryhausen RIP

June 29th 1920 - May 7th 2013
Ray Harryhausen was the clay-model animator responsible for creating Dynamation, - the technique, not the word. This used Harryhausen designed models in stop-motion animation combined with live action footage.
He did make films that were all animation but what this escapist, fantasist, adventure story loving boy loved best were the live actor and animated model movies with heroes engaging with magic, mythology, monsters and the macabre.
Ray Harryhausen was a mind boggling, eye opening, innovative, inspirational artist. His influence demonstrated for instance in the fact of Wallace and Gromit's piano bearing the makers name 'Harryhausen'.
His life and works all over the internet. You might try http://www.rayharryhausen.com/index.php

Hi Arthur.

I remember being very young and watching what must have been the original version of the live action Clash Of The Titans. Don't remember much about the story (been meaning to watch it again, recently), but I definitely remember the monsters and effects.

These pics immediately made me think of the Satan's Judge Anderson images that you created not so long ago. Melding the unreal and fantastical with the real. A skill that you and Mr Harryhausen are masters of.

Kind Regards

Bheki

Hullo Bheki,

not sure that story was the first priority with the creators of most Harryhausen movies. Have read that even he was disappointed with that aspect of his career. Struggling with Sirius as I am it is a point of view with which I some sympathy.
Best,
Arthur

Hullo Olga,

you left a nice and interesting comment - but . .
Due to all the spam links that get left in comments my general rule is to delete anything with links attached. The Facebook one I might have let pass but I am too cautious to leave the others so it was all or nothing. Be happy if you read this and leave another message.

Best,
Arthur

It is hard to believe that these are made out of clay. Mythical creatures and incidents have been hot topic in arts and there are so many adaptations on those. I am very much impressed by the work depicted here.

Hullo Maria,

how true.
Your sincerity was bought into question a little by your inclusion of a commercial link. To protect your reputation I wiped it.
No need to thank me.

All the best,
Arthur
