One of your strongest pages to date, looks like you've really settled into this medium! How does it compare time wise with your more traditional line and coloured inks work?

Hullo Andy,

the 'traditional' way I reckoned on two days per page for the 'realistic 'stuff. These take a fortnight or so per page but then I am not at my desk from 9 - 7 every day. Am getting more 'painterly' and less meticulous with this software with the intention of speeding up. Which I will need to do if my ambitions for a cast of thousands are to come to anything.

Later: should add that back then there was a clear aim in view and I was disciplined, organised and methodical. None of those things now.

That's quite a difference in time Arthur, though as you say not purely down to the hours spent at the easel/drawing board. There seems to be a big pressure on strip artists to produce fully painted pages these days, got to take more time and I hear page rates are plummeting at certain companies..., still such a vital storytelling device though!!

Hi Arthur,
Perhaps came over a little too doom-laden there; it was just listening to an artist at the Nerdfest convention recently who said that with the advent of digital drawing time spent was reducing, hence payment rates were coming down in tandem; the guy in question was producing 2 US comics per month though often working well into and through the night which hardly sounds ideal, his enthusiasm was pretty boundless but what price automatism?! Personally I much prefer those beautifully hand-produced early 70s Look-In covers by Arnaldo and your good self.

in my prime I was known to work all day, all night and the following day so technology can't be blamed for that.
Even now when enthused I work later into the night than can be good for me.
If true, being paid less for getting more efficient sounds unfair. Workers of the World uniting is I suppose unlikely in this particular market.
